Powering Cleaner Shipping at Sustainable Shipping Days 2026

On 29–30 June 2026, the H2MARINE Project joined forces with the MiNaMi project to host a dedicated breakout session on “PEM Fuel Cell Applications in the Maritime Sector” during Sustainable Shipping Days 2026 in Lucerne.

The session highlighted the latest progress in developing hydrogen fuel cell technologies for maritime applications, focusing on key challenges such as PEM fuel cell stack durability, the impact of harsh marine operating conditions, and the upscaling of fuel cell systems for clean shipping.

Dr. Kyriakos Panopoulos (Centre for Research and Technology Hellas) presented the vision, objectives, and key achievements of both H2MARINE and MiNaMi. Dr. Andreas Bodén (PowerCell Group) shared the latest developments in PEM fuel cell stack technology for marine applications, while Dr. Jyrki Mikkola from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland presented recent advances in diagnostics and monitoring methods for maritime PEM fuel cell systems.

The session provided an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge, showcase the progress of both projects, and engage with the sustainable shipping community as we continue advancing hydrogen-powered solutions for cleaner maritime transport.
